“Language Carrier!”
Summer Hebrew classes continue at B’nai Jacob this August!
Hebrew Literacy Crash Course- 5:30 PM
Ideal for beginners, this crash course (conducted by Rivka Cohen) covers the skills of reading and pronunciation. The main focus will be on building literacy and would be perfect preparation for Robin's Prayer class in the fall. Classes began last Thursday and will continue through the end of August. For more information or if you plan on attending, please call our office (304 346-4722).
Dorm Warnings Ahead!
I will be out of the office on Sunday, August 29th as we now move Avrah back to school. Our next newsletter, with information on the High Holidays, will be coming your way on or before September 3rd!
Give Her a “Challah-Back”, Girl!
Libby Chatfield of Charleston Bread has asked me to announce that if you would like round challahs for Rosh Hashana, to please start making your orders. If we can give her a week's notice, she will make sure that we'll have enough to fill all the orders (Rosh Hashana begins September 8th!). If you would like to place an order with her, please give her a "challer" at 720-3022. You can also fax her on the same line. All Charleston Bread products are certified kosher (dairy) and certified delicious!
"High Holiday Tickets Are Going Fast!
Operators Are Standing By!"
We are beginning our preparation for the High Holiday season. Ticket request letters have been sent out to our members and we appreciate that many have returned their cards quickly. We ask that if you haven't sent in your request, please do so as soon as possible. If you are not a member and would like to find out more about coming to our Synagogue for the High Holidays, please contact me or Steve Max at the Synagogue (346-4722). We would love to have you join us!
In our Corner
Our deepest sympathies go out to Dr. Jay and Michelle Miller on the sudden passing of their son Justin. May the Holy One, Blessed Be He, watch over Justin and bring comfort to the Miller family during this tragic time.
We would like to wish a continued refuah shelama to Harold Levenson, Lou Goldberg, and Stanley Margolis. Our prayers and our thoughts are with them and their families.
Mazel Tov to Thorney and Anne Lieberman on the engagement of their son Sam.

Selichot Services 10:00 PM
Selichot are beautiful prayers asking forgiveness from G-d. We ask Him to forgive us, to have mercy on us, to grant us favor as we begin the High Holiday season. Selichot is one of the most hallowed services in our tradition and is the official start of the High Holy Days. This is an important service in our tradition and we hope that you and the entire family can join us for a great evening of anticipation of the New Year.
There will be no 5:45 services that evening.
“And a Child Shall Need Them”

Marilyn and I are beginning to plan for the new year and we have got some exciting programs and activities for our children. However, we cannot do it without your support. If you would like to be a volunteer this year with our Sunday School program, please let me know at charlestonrabbi@yahoo.com or Marilyn at mjcooksalot@yahoo.com . In addition, our Sunday school is open to all children from the age of 3 on up. If you know of any families that would like to join us, please let me know and I will be happy to personally contact them before the start of the school year.
