Mazel Tov to Rabbi Victor Urecki on being granted the American Jewish World Service Global Justice Fellowship for 2019-2020. The American Jewish World Service (AJWS) is a nonprofit, international development and human rights organization that supports community-based organizations in 19 countries in the developing world and works to educate the American Jewish community about global justice. American Jewish World Service is the leading Jewish organization working to fight poverty and pursue justice in the developing world. Through philanthropy and advocacy, it responds to the most pressing issues of our time—from disasters, genocide and hunger, to the persecution of women and minorities worldwide. With Jewish values and a global reach, AJWS is making a difference in millions of lives and building a more just and equitable world.
Rabbi Urecki is one of 14 rabbis who, starting in October, will embark on an intensive 6 months of learning about international human rights and its connection to Jewish values and learning. Most of the programming will take place through webinar sessions. As someone concerned about the situation along our southern border, one of the vital areas of concentration will be to understand the connections between what is happening in these difficult regions and the humanitarian crisis we see unfolding before our eyes. The fellowship is fully sponsored by AJWS donors.
