AIPAC Policy Conference 2012
From Rabbi Victor Urecki
In today’s fast paced world, it is easy for people to feel overwhelmed by their daily responsibilities. While everyone has obligations at work and at home, as Jews we also have a special duty to our community. And while we want to help strengthen the Jewish community, and support Israel, finding tangible actions to support the Jewish state can be difficult.
This March, you and I have a unique opportunity to travel together as one community of faith,
to help make a real difference. I’m talking about the AIPAC Policy Conference, March 4-6, 2012, in Washington, D.C.
Let me tell you a bit about this gathering. AIPAC is America’s pro-Israel lobby, the organization in charge of working with Congress and the White House to ensure that America stands by the state of Israel. The conference is the largest pro-Israel gathering in the United States and includes speeches from presidents and prime ministers, Middle East scholars, political pundits and leading journalists. The last day, we all head to Capitol Hill and lobby our members of Congress face to face.
In the months ahead, the impact of the protest movements that swept across the Arab world in 2011 will continue to be felt throughout the Middle East. You and I can be part of historic lobbying efforts to ensure that no matter who assumes power in Egypt, Libya or even Syria, that Israel will maintain its qualitative military edge and the Israeli people will remain safe and secure.
Our leadership as a congregation and our actions as individuals—even seemingly small actions—can have an impact on the policy debate in our nation’s capital. That’s why I need you to join our congregation’s delegation to this year’s AIPAC Policy Conference, March 4-6,so we can lobby our members of Congress together.
